07 NOV 2011 - NSW Champs Rd 4 was a scorcher!
Last Saturday saw the temperature rise and so did the competition at Sydney Dragway for Round 4 of the NSW Championship Series. Even with the Track Temp getting to nearly 130 degrees and direct sun beating down on the surface the Track held in there all day as racers in all Brackets were giving it their all to gain positions in the NSW Championship Series!
Also this event being the Darren Shepherd Memorial for Modified Bike and Screamin' Eagles made the competition in those brackets even more intense as you would expect as everyone wanted the honour of having the coveted Darren Shepherd Memorial Trophy sitting on the mantelpiece.
As hot as the track was there was still four new Track Records set with some others being bettered but not backed up within the required one percent.
![]() Margaret Hartill-Law had her beautiful Ford 27T Roadster flying and reset the A/Hot Rod records to 8.150 @ 162.72 mph but lost in round two with a break out to Jenny Petrie! |
![]() Wally Hosta had a radiator hose come off which saw him and his Kawasaki part company however Wally returned and reset the C/Modified Bike ET record to 10.276. Wally actually bettered the MPH record too but failed to back it up. |
![]() Mathew Tansley was having a great day until he came up against Michael Borg in the semis however he managed to reset the B/Modified Bike record to 9.703. |
![]() Greg Fowler was impressive all day however an uncharacteristic .200 light in the semis saw him run a breaking out 6.987 (6.99 dial in) trying to chase down son Steve in the Beretta. |
![]() Stormin Norman McCormack had his Front Engined Dragster going straight down broadway all day and took out the High Performance World Supercharged Outlaws Bracket when Jeff Penton pushed a little too hard and broke out handing the win to the ET Drag Racers Club President. |
![]() Adriana MacCaskell got her first win of the season and jumped into the points lead in J&C Mowers/Skips Fire Service Junior Dragster! |
![]() Locky Ireland towed up from Victoria to get some track time running in Rapid Bikes Magazine Modified Bike and rattled off a very respectable 7.387 @ 180.04 in the heat before mechanical woes ended his day early. |
![]() Frank "Mr 10.5" Mamone loves his burnouts but loved the 6.643 time card more especially when it read 232.15 mph!!! Very impressive run on a 125 degree track with 10.5" wide rear tyres!!!! |
![]() James Danoskos had a fiery return to racing when he blew the entire back end off his transmission on the start line ... luckily the start line crew were on to it quickly and got the fire out and cleaned up in no time we were back racing! |
![]() Just how good is this Top Sportsman racing ... Steve Fowler (near lane) is behind Brett Sheard at the first cone (66 feet before the finish line) and Steve gets the win by 35 thousandths of a second and went on to win the event!!! |
| As we said at the start of this report this event run in the memory of Darren Shepherd, a very well liked and respected Motorcycle racer who tragically died in an accident just outside Sydney Dragway two years ago today (7/11/2009) and racers in the Modified Bike and Screamin' Eagle Brackets race for the Darren Shepherd Memorial Trophy at this event each year. |
![]() It was Michael Borg who took his Honda all the way for the win in Modified Bike ... |
![]() ... and Robert Axisa who won the inaugural Darren Shepherd Trophy took out the Screamin' Eagle Bracket again!!! |
