04 MAY 2012 - A new start for the JBS Jet

A new start for the JBS Jet
Thursday, 3rd May 2012
Round 4 of the ANDRA Pro Series Top Alcohol Championship marks a new start for the Newby Team.
The unfortunate end to the Adelaide International Raceway event also brought an end to the Newby dragster. But all is not lost; it was just the push the team needed to move ahead with long standing plans to put Wayne into a funny car.
Since the Adelaide event the team has been burning more than just the midnight oil to get the new car ready for this weekend’s Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway. Last Saturday the car hit the track for the first time and boy did it burn some rubber.
Wayne had three runs down the Sydney track and afterwards had only positive things to say about the new car. “It feels really comfortable” said Wayne. “It is not as big a transition as you would think; I am really looking forward to this weekend’s racing and can’t wait to see the numbers it can run”.
The long held belief is that a funny car will always take out Top Speed points so lets see if that works in Newby’s favour in closing the one point gap between him and the number one spot in the championship. It will certainly shake things up and make for some very interesting racing this weekend.
All eyes will be on Wayne to see how he goes, but he is a seasoned Top Alcohol racer and will no doubt take it all in his stride. “One race at a time” as Wayne says.
So with the car now track tested and the artwork being done we can’t wait for qualifying to start on Saturday at 1pm. I for one can’t wait to see the first match up against the current number one, and see just how much the playing field has been levelled.
With three big days of racing the Nitro Champs promises to be very exciting indeed for more reasons than one. If you haven’t already joined the JBS/Newby Racing facebook page, now is the perfect time, with Allie promising to keep us all up to date with all that happens at the event. “Like” it here.
Wayne Newby would like to sincerely thank the entire team and our valued sponsors JBS Tools, Fabre Australia, Smithfield Diff and Gear, Coldy's Tow & Bullbars, Redline Oils, VP Racing Fuels, Mick's Metal Craft, CRC Industries and Newby Engineering for their continued support, without whom racing would not be possible.
