13 JUL 2011 - Sydney Dragway Track Profiling Works
Sydney Dragway has been in negotiations with the New South Wales Public Work, Sydney Region which is part of the Department of Finance and Services of the New South Wales Government for some time looking for a solution rectify the bumps in the concrete surface and the transition were the concrete meets the ashpalt.
We were more than happy with the communication and understanding by the department and the opportunity to work through minor hiccups that presented themselves during the works that can crop up in a project of this size.
The works have been completed so we thought we would give a little insight as how it all took place.
![]() Rubber removal begins with 30,000 PSI water blasting from Road Line Removals Australia ... |
![]() Over seven years of rubber build up to remove but is was no match for the powerful Road Line Removal water blaster! |
![]() The guys worked well into the night to keep the project on scedule ... |
![]() The massive SEOVIC diamond profiling machine moves in to do is job to level out any high spots that got in it's way ! |
![]() The SEOVIC Profiling machine relies on two support tankers to allow it to keep on working ... The front tanker accepts all the excess water and slurry while the tanker following replenishes the machines water supply. |
![]() There was a lot of machinery on the track at any given time and required precision timing and co-ordination. (Of course that is normal practice for Drag Racing events!) |
![]() Profiling well into night while rubber removal was taking place in the other lane ... each pass took over an hour and the guys never stopped all day until the lane was finished! |
![]() Once the profiling was finished work began on the bump at the transition from the concrete to the Ashpalt. |
![]() Meanwhile our friends from Lamonts Concrete Grinding Services started polishing the entire surface .. rain hail or shine Paul was out there! |
![]() Reo Bar was drilled and inserted into the existing concrete and the sub section of the Ashpalt ... |
![]() The footings done ... Reo Bar and Mesh in place ready for the Concrete to go in ... |
![]() The finished item and the bump is gone ... |
![]() The final grinding process which was a mamouth task with over 4000 square metres to hand grind had the guys working into the nights to try and get us back racing! |
![]() ... with Final Grinding being performed Vitric Quality Flooring Systems working throught the weekend. |
![]() Grinding almost finished ... |
![]() Road Line Removals came back in to pressure wash the track to remove the fine concrete dust. |
| Once the track dries we will have two tractors dragging rubber and spraying traction compound to restore the racing surface ready for Friday Night's Street Meet... and then more rubbing until the Test nTune on Sunday! |
